In 1995 Ralph Fair and Dennis Smith responded to a call from the Lord to do something for the multitude of children living on the streets of Peru, many of whom were a product of the havoc wreaked upon Peru through the Shinning Path guerrilla war only recently terminated.
That call lead us to Cusco in the high Andes where after three years of diligent effort a 100 acre plot was purchased to begin construction on an orphanage complex. Our first act was to hold a church service under the shade of a pine tree. Today after scores have been baptized we hold church services in six communities. In 1999 the orphanage was inaugurated with 11 children.
Today Hogar de Niños Casa del Aguila has capacity for 56 children in 7 separate homes, each with a house parent or parents. In 2001, in collaboration with the government of Finland, construction was begun on a school and medical clinic.
In 2002 Rio Blanco Christian School was inaugurated covering grades 1 through 6. Today 250 orphans and local Quechua Indian children from neighboring agricultural communities attend from kindergarten through high school. Soon after Casa del Aguila Medical Clinic opened its doors.
These works have served our local communities to raise the level of health and education. The social impact is evident as well in improved roads, electricity and jobs. Orphans are at the heart of what God has called us to do hear but we are equally excited to see the Christian impact our school has had and will have on succeeding generations.
