Volunteers

Throughout the year we host volunteers from all over the world. The duration of visits ranges from a couple of days to several months. Recently we have discussed the need to offer our volunteers the opportunity to study Spanish while they engage in meaningful volunteer efforts. You can click here if you are interested in the Spanish language program as well.

Currently one missionary family from the U.S., the Sandersons, reside at CDA, and they are ready and willing to host you. We at CDA want to encourage you in any way we can to get out and do something different.

PLANNING AHEAD

We are excited that you are interested in CDA’s volunteer program! Now comes the first challenge— the application process. We want to help make this process as easy as possible for you. First you must fill out an application, provide two references, and sign our volunteer Code of Conduct form. All these items must be submitted at least 2 months prior to volunteer start date. Submit forms to mikeg.icm@gmail.com.

WEATHER

Rainy Season: November – April

Dry Season: May – October

Temperatures are about the same year round, with lows in the mid 40s and highs in the low 80s.

PASSPORT

Everyone needs a valid passport that does not expire within 6 months of travel dates. Applications can take 6+wks. Please plan accordingly. The Peruvian travel visa is granted upon arrival in Lima.

INSURANCE

Travel insurance is recommended, but not required. Each person is responsible for purchasing their own travel insurance.

VACCINES

In order to travel to Peru, you need to be up-to-date on all regular vaccines. You do not need Malaria meds or Yellow Fever vaccine to enter Peru or visit Casa del Aguila and Machu Picchu. If you plan on visiting other places within Peru please consult the CDC website for other recommended vaccines.

ALTITUDE & TERRAIN

Peru is a beautiful & fun destination; however, the spectacular views are generally a result of rugged mountainous terrains. Cusco is located at about 11,000ft and CDA at 8,100ft. High altitude affects people in different ways. While we make every effort to keep you comfortable, this is not a five-star resort.

EXPENSES

AIRFARE

International airfare will vary by season, availability, and U.S. departure city, but an average ticket is $1100. A domestic flight from Lima to Cusco will also be required at a cost of around $200. There may be a need for a 1 night hotel stay in Lima, due to your specific flight arrival/departure times. Ramada Inn at the airport has rooms for $132 per night (double occupancy).

TRANSPORTATION

Ground transportation is required to reach CDA, which is approximately 50 miles from Cusco. Transportation general costs about $20 per person and can be arranged just prior to your arrival date.

FOOD & LODGING AT CASA DEL AGUILA

Food, lodging, and bottled water are provided at CDA for a daily rate of $20 per person per day or $600 a month per person. For large groups accommodations are dormitory style bunk beds. For small groups we have 2 small apartments. Clean linens and towels are provided and the hot water is created by wood burning boilers. Meals are served in our cafeteria and they provide great times for getting to know our kids, planning, and reflecting on the day.

TOURISM

A visit to Machu Picchu is a must. A one day visit costs about $250 per person. A 2 day visit is about $300. Cusco also boasts some amazing white water rafting, and it’s very easy to book a trip into the jungle. We can help you accomplish all your tourism goals.

FOOD & LODGING OUTSIDE CDA

Program fee only covers expenses while on CDA campus. You are free on the weekends to engage in tourist activities at your own expense. There are many wonderful places to stay & eat in Cusco!

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

We have many different projects that are going on and we can always use a helping hand. Projects and ministry opportunities are limitless. The CDA Team will help match your gifts and your calling to the needs of CDA.

UPON ARRIVAL

Upon arrival, you will be transferred to CDA. When you arrive at the farm you will be offered herbal tea and be asked to rest for awhile. Drinking lots of water will help your body adjust to the altitude. While you relax our hospitality director will give you an overview of the week’s activities and answer any questions you may have.
